Electroceramics network

Information about the laboratory sessions

The school will include four laboratory sessions designed to complement the lecture program through direct practical exposure to key experimental methods used in the field of 2D – materials (thin films, Mxenes, graphene, TMD) Each session will introduce the basic principles of the respective techniques, present representative examples, and include live demonstrations of selected measurements or processing steps performed on site. In this way, the laboratory tour will provide students with a practical perspective on the topics covered in the lectures and help them build a comprehensive understanding of 2D materials, combining both theoretical background and hands-on insight.

The laboratory sessions will cover: clean room processing techniques such as physical vapor deposition (PVD), and focused ion beam (FIB), the synthesis of 2D materials in a chemical laboratory environment, fundamentals of field-effect transistors (FETs) with a focus on the integration of materials into devices, device characterization and evaluation of material impact, as well as the characterization by X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

In addition to the scientific program, the school will also include two social events. One of them will be organized as a dinner combined with an informal discussion with the lecturers, providing space for networking, exchange of ideas, and presentation of the Young Ceramists Network (YCN).
